The LSC-North Harris Automotive Technology Department offers academic and technical education and training to assist students entering the automotive services industry. They learn the mechanical, electrical and environmental systems for contemporary automobiles and light trucks.

Hertz Electrifies Houston (Hertz Car Rental and the city of Houston partnership) donated a 2022 Chevrolet Bolt (electric vehicle) in March 2023 to LSC-North Harris to assist with automotive training. The college has more than 20 cars (electric and gas) in its fleet.

“Thanks to Hertz Electrifies Houston, Lone Star College-North Harris continues to be one of the top automotive programs in the state that uses current technology like the Chevrolet Bolt to educate and train the next group of skilled workers in this competitive industry,” said Bennie Lambert, Ph.D., LSC-North Harris president.

LSC Auto Repair Classroom

LSC-North Harris Automotive Technology graduates can work as career technicians in dealership service departments or other major retail or service firms.

The LSC-Houston North Electric Vehicle Charging Station Installation and Maintenance Technician Certificate II gives students a hands-on workspace to physically learn how to wire residential and commercial properties, skills learned in the Electrical Technology Certificate level I program. The Bethune Empowerment Center, a joint venture with the city of Houston, will house a lab with wall-mounted (homes and residential buildings) and pedestal (commercial properties) charging stations to train LSC students on installing, wiring and troubleshooting these charging stations.

“The partnership with the city of Houston and the Bethune Center will train our students on the intricacies of installing and maintaining charging stations, which we will increasingly need as we see more electric vehicles hit the market,” said Quentin Wright, Ed.D., LSC-Houston North president.

The Electrical Technology Certificate Level I and Electric Vehicle Charging Station Installation and Maintenance Technician Certificate Level II are part of LSC’s Electrical Technology program offered at LSC-Houston North.
