Lone Star College is meeting students where they are with its newest campus, LSC-Online. LSC’s eighth official college opened in fall 2022 with 3,643 students. In fall 2023, 4,708 students found great value in taking courses virtually through LSC-Online.
“Lone Star College-Online opened to provide another option for prospective students to pursue and earn a college credential – fully online – without having to step foot on a physical campus,” said Seelpa Keshvala, Ph.D., LSC executive vice chancellor and LSC-Online CEO. “A fully online option aligns with Lone Star College’s mission of ensuring access and opportunity for anyone seeking higher education.”
The 29% increase in enrollment at LSC-Online is a credit to the comprehensive resources available, such as 100% virtual student support services (advising, tutoring, library services and 24/7 technical support) and dedicated faculty and staff specializing in online teaching and learning.
Kristena Hackett graduated from LSC-Online in May 2023. She took her first classes 20 years after high school and felt she couldn't complete it. Hackett also credits her professors for helping her succeed. She believes LSC-Online gives students who feel like giving up the strength to continue their academic path.
“It is an amazing experience to be one of the first graduates of LSC-Online, and I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my instructors motivating me to continue my education,” said Hackett. “Lone Star College-Online is educating students and changing lives, one student at a time.”
LSC-Online has over 30 programs that lead to an associate degree (arts, science or applied science) or an accredited certification. Offerings include administrative services, business administration, computer and digital technology, energy, manufacturing and construction trades, health sciences and teaching.
“The one-on-one interaction that I receive at Lone Star College-Online pushes me to work harder to meet my goals,” said Lindsey Nanninga, LSC-Online student.
Nanninga, a paramedic for 16 years, placed her college education on the back burner to marry and raise three children. Once they were in school, she went back to college. The LSC-Online student believes her professors’ positive affirmations make her feel like she’s more than just an email or discussion post, which has made a difference in her educational journey.
LSC-Online offers fully online degrees and individual online classes at an affordable rate. The flexible options allow students who are juggling home, work and school an opportunity to complete their degrees virtually in two years, the same for those who take on-campus classes.
“My time at Lone Star College-Online has a ripple effect beyond me. My children, siblings, friends and coworkers have all seen me reach my academic goals,” said Nanninga. “The professors push me to be successful and my kids get to see me get the education I want them to have.”
