When it comes to preparing for a career in the energy industry, the members of the Houston Gas Processors Midstream Association know what it takes.
The Houston-based nonprofit facilitates communication and networking opportunities between local professionals in the midstream oil and gas sector. With a $100,000 gift to the John Peterson - GPA Midstream Houston Chapter endowment, through Lone Star College Foundation, the group is empowering the next generation of industry leaders to further their education.
“Lone Star College System is committed to helping each of our students achieve their goals. Support from Foundation donors like GPA Midstream Houston can help get them one step closer,” said Susan Summers, CFRE, LSC Foundation director, Donor Relations.
Known as the “Energy Capital of the World,” Houston is a global leader in the energy industry, and Lone Star College System offers affordable, high-quality programs for students interested in this field.
“We know the future of our industry depends on the next generation, so we want to help local students get the education and training they need. The midstream oil and gas industry continually needs engineers, project managers, welders and other professionals, so supporting them today means we’re investing in strong, skilled workers for tomorrow,” said Jonathan Fowler, HGPA chairman of the board and vice president of Engineering & Construction at Targa Resources.
Students are eligible to apply for $1,250 scholarships to cover education costs if their intended area of study is Engineering, Construction Management, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering Technology, Welding or Process Technology. Students may attend any campus, but they must be at least parttime students, have a minimum 2.5 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to those who desire to work in the oil and gas industry.
“At our core, the Houston GPA Midstream believes that investing in local students is an investment in the future of the midstream oil and gas industry as well as the communities where we all live, work and thrive,” said John Peterson, HGPA scholarship chair and vice president at United Steel Structures. “By providing scholarships, we’re helping the next generation gain the necessary skills and education they need—whether at a university, community college or a trade school—to build a rewarding career in the midstream oil and gas industry and enrich their lives.”
