Lone Star College Foundation presented $10,000 scholarships to 15 Lone Star College System students and semifinalists for the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke (JKC) Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.

“Lone Star College Foundation is thrilled to recognize a remarkable group of students whose hard work and commitment to their education are leading them toward earning prestigious opportunities such as the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship,” said Nicole Robinson Gauthier, CFRE, LSC Foundation executive director.

Lone Star College System led the nation with 19 semifinalists, out of 1,600 applicants, for the highly competitive JKC Scholarship. Among 67 nationwide semifinalists, 90 finalists were chosen, including four LSCS students, who will each receive up to $55,000 annually for up to three years to complete a four-year degree.

“For me, receiving the JKC scholarship means that my family's and my sacrifices were worth it. Coming from a low-income family, my mother constantly had to make sacrifices to keep me and my grandparents afloat,” said Jaquelyn (Jackie) Galvan, LSCCyFair graduate. “The financial stability of this scholarship means I can complete my bachelor’s and not have to put a strain on our family.”

Galvan graduated from LSC-CyFair in May and is now attending University of Houston with plans to become an orthodontist. Alongside Galvan, Jada-Kai Johnson and Jonathan Rodriguez (LSC-North Harris) and Yoseline Mendoza (LSCMontgomery) were also named JKC recipients.

LSC Foundation offers various scholarships each semester based on merit, need, demographics or career focus.
