Community Support

Volunteers like John Fisher donate their time, expertise and resources to help students meet their educational and career goals.

"Volunteerism and fundraising are important because they connect individuals and build a network of people with like-minded passions," said Fisher. "Supporting Lone Star College Foundation, you get to see that return on investment, which is student success."

While attending LSC-Kingwood, Fisher started volunteering with LSC Foundation at the 2007 StarGala to raise money for students and programs. He has since added the Drive for Scholarships Golf Tournament to his resume as a sponsor and player. Fisher hopes talented and diverse LSC graduates will return to the community using their educational and career skills gained through LSC.

"I see the positive impact Lone Star College Foundation has within Lone Star College and the community it serves," said Fisher. "I also genuinely enjoy working with Lone Star College Foundation team whose collective focus is supporting the students at Lone Star College."

Fisher enrolled at LSC-Kingwood in 2006 and became a campus ambassador and student worker in the College Relations Office in 2007. He then transitioned to serve in the Student Services department and joined the advising team at LSC-Online in 2013. Fisher credits the college system for giving him the experiences needed to create a professional resume, complete with skills, talents, education and work history.

"At Lone Star College, I learned business acumen, explored my passion for technologies and continued my love for lifelong learning," he said. "My collective experiences at Lone Star College developed the person I am today and taught me the soft skills to be successful in past, current and future opportunities."

Fisher left LSC in 2014 to work in learning and development in oil and gas. After the industry downturned in 2018, he joined the Houston Police Department. Fisher will earn a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Houston-Downtown in winter 2024 and plans to attend law school in fall 2025.

"I will continue to advocate, volunteer and be a donor for Lone Star College to help support and develop the next generation of students," said Fisher. "The college community, with its talented faculty, innovative leadership and passionate employees, work hard to promote and live by the mission and values of Lone Star College to influence student success."
