Helping to Pay for College

Lone Star College remains committed to being a sound fiscal steward by ensuring sound financial practices and fairly allocating budget and resources. One way that LSC is able to accomplish this is by actively applying for grant money.

Grants are given to a person, business, government or an organization that is designated for a specific purpose. These grants do not need to be repaid and can come from governmental organizations or foundations.

Each year LSC is awarded grant money to help students succeed. LSC has been awarded more than $10 million in grants in Fiscal Year 2022 alone from a wide variety of funding agencies, including the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. State Department, Texas Workforce Commission and The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

LSC also recently received a Metallica Scholars grant from legendary rock band Metallica, pictured below, through their All Within My Hands (AWMH) Foundation. This is the fifth year in a row that LSC was awarded an AWMH grant in conjunction with the American Association of Community Colleges. This grant will be used to prepare students to become Live Entertainment Technology professionals.
