The Lone Star College Honors College is designed to meet the needs of high-achieving students seeking to enhance their college transcripts with challenging coursework provided across a broad range of disciplines.

“The Honors College is important to Lone Star College,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC Chancellor. “The message is that you don’t have to  go off to another college to receive a quality education.”

It was this kind of program that attracted Alex Nuyda to LSC.

“During my studies at The Honors College, I developed critical academic skills and pursued enriching co-curricular opportunities without financial strain,” said Nuyda, who graduated from Lone Star College and later transferred to Rice University.

Nuyda was able to maintain a 4.0 GPA and graduated with an Honors Associate of Science degree. She also participated in a study abroad program in China, conducted Capstone research in Washington, D.C. and attended a professional workshop with The Washington Center while attending LSC.

“Coming from The Honors College, a lot of professors at Rice University were surprised by the aptitudes and experience that I had,” said Nuyda. “Those kinds of skills are usually refined in the latter years of undergrad, so I was on par or ahead of my peers at Rice in that regard upon transferring.”

LSC Honors College graduates have gone on to transfer to top institutions including Columbia University, Cornell University, Duke University, Texas A&M University, University of Texas and Vanderbilt University.
