The Honors College at Lone Star College offers high-achieving students from various backgrounds an opportunity to take their college level to the next level.

“The Honors College at Lone Star College offers innovative and quality programming that sets students up for success to compete in an increasingly competitive global world,” said Katharine Caruso, Ph.D., LSC associate vice chancellor, Honors and International Education. “When our students achieve greatness, it changes the perception of the type of education community colleges, like Lone Star College, can offer students.”

The LSC Honors College gives students access to global knowledge and experiences while preparing them to transfer to top universities nationwide such as Columbia, Harvard, Rice and Stanford. Students can also participate in co-curricular Honors tracks such as the STEM honors track with Rice University and the Humanities honors tracks with Johns Hopkins University.

“Overall, the Honors College was instrumental in my academic and professional success, such as law school, and it continues to inspire me to seek out opportunities to give back to the community,” said Victoria Moreno, LSC graduate. “The undergraduate research projects helped my writing and presentation skills and made me more confident to participate in lectures and projects at The University of Texas at Austin.” Moreno graduated from UT at Austin and now studies law at Harvard Law School.

LSC Honors College students travel and participate in educational and cultural events, service learning projects, conferences and special seminars. In 2023, they earned top honors during the National Model United Nations (NMUN) Conference held in New York. NMUN annually draws participants from more than 130 U.N. Member States to address current global issues.

“Participating in the NMUN Conference provided me a platform to develop communication and diplomacy skills through real-world simulations, and it fostered connections to students who share the same interests as me but come from various backgrounds,” said Alexis Lopez, LSC-Tomball student. “Lone Star College earning top honors against larger colleges proves that community colleges are not less than four-year institutions.”

LSC Honors College students represented Ghana and The Association for Women’s Rights in Development. The conference recognized Lone Star College with Outstanding Delegation (awarded to the students representing Ghana) and Distinguished Delegation (awarded to students representing the Association for Women’s Rights in Development).
