Lone Star College offers a clear path to help students transfer to four-year institutions through the Houston Guided Pathways to Success (Houston GPS) program. Led by the University of Houston, Houston GPS provides a timely, structured and seamless process for LSC students to earn their bachelor’s degree close to home at an affordable rate.
“Lone Star College students can start their educational journey with us and transfer most, if not all, of their credits to four-year universities in Houston, across the state or nationwide,” said Jamie Posey, LSC associate vice chancellor, Office of Student Success and Completion.
LSC works with many institutions, but its partnership with the University of Houston-Downtown has a long history of assisting students in earning their undergraduate degrees. This collaboration allows students to enroll in both colleges simultaneously to enjoy dual resources, including library privileges and advising services.
“Lone Star College prepared me for my transfer to a university by providing all the guidance and resources necessary to ensure the process was seamless,” said Diana Cantu, former LSC-University Park and current UHD student. “The transfer process was simple and easy to go through, all of my credits were transferred and were applied to my degree.”
In 2023, Lone Star College transferred 13,974 students to over 500 educational institutions locally and nationally. Many transfers attended the University of Houston, University of Houston-Downtown, Sam Houston State University, Texas A&M, The University of Texas at Austin, Texas State University, Prairie View A&M University, Baylor University, University of Texas at San Antonio and Stephen F. Austin.
LSC offers transfer degree plans to enroll students in the required courses to earn a bachelor’s degree. The university-approved classes lessen obstacles students might face when transferring into a designated degree program.
“Lone Star College works with four-year institutions to create pathways that will help students transfer to the university of choice with minimal disruptions,” said Posey. “Navigating the college experience can be a daunting task and Lone Star College is prepared to do what it takes to help students achieve their goals.”
