Fred and Susan Caldwell are a fixture in the Cy-Fair and Cypress area through their business, Caldwell Companies, and many volunteer efforts. Their commitment to education is rooted in the numerous endowments and scholarships they have established at Lone Star College.
“Education is a cornerstone of a strong community,” said Fred Caldwell (pictured right with wife Susan), Caldwell Companies Founding Partner and CEO. “We are committed to ensuring that those who want a college education can earn one without adding heavy financial burdens.”
The Caldwells have established multiple endowments, including one in honor of Fred’s mother, Nancy F. Caldwell. These funds are awarded annually to students who demonstrate a financial need and a willingness to earn a college education.
“We support institutions like Lone Star College because a quality education leads to thriving communities, strong families and a positive economy,” said Susan Caldwell.
Chryssy Tan (pictured below), a Susan J. Caldwell Endowment for the Arts scholarship recipient, is an LSC-CyFair student pursuing an associate of arts degree in music vocal performance. The scholarship has helped her to pay for textbooks and other educational expenses related to her degree. Tan will graduate from LSC-CyFair in May 2024 and plans to attend a four-year university and hopes to launch a career as a professional vocalist. Tan said her time at LSC-CyFair is preparing her for life’s challenges.
“It is one of the greatest honors to receive the Susan J. Caldwell Endowment for the Arts scholarship, which has continued my passion for pursuing music,” said Tan. “Lone Star College has prepared me academically and for life in the real world. I have big hopes and dreams, including performing professionally and perhaps becoming a professor someday.”
Outside of Caldwell Companies, Fred sits on the board of directors for the Cy-Fair Educational Foundation and the Lowry Mays College and Graduate School of Business Development at Texas A&M University. He also has served as an executive board member for the 12th Man Foundation at Texas A&M University. Additionally, Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District named Fred as an influential honoree at its 75th Anniversary celebration. Fred also served on the LSC Foundation Board.
Along with her duties providing counsel on culture, interior design and marketing at Caldwell Companies, Susan serves on KSBJ’s President’s Council and at Bible Study Fellowship. Fred and Susan volunteer with many faith-based organizations, including JH Ranch and JH Outback along with several local churches.
Fred and Susan have been married for 40 years and have two daughters and sons-in-law; Amanda Grace and Stephen Morris and Lindsey and Michael McConathy. They also have one grandson, Leo McConathy.
