Fulfilling The Dream
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ is more than just cowboys, music, contests and a fun-filled midway. They also give more than 800 scholarships to Texas students each year. In the 2021-2022 academic year, The Rodeo donated $200,000 in vocational scholarships to several Houston-area educational institutions, with 18 awarded to Lone Star College students.
“The Rodeo understands the significant demand for vocational skills in today’s environment, and we are committed to supporting these students as they pursue a nontraditional education,” said Chris Boleman, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo President and CEO. “These schools offer vocational and trade school programs that will help students develop the technical skills and training needed to stay competitive in specialized fields.”
“Lone Star College is grateful to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for supporting our students through scholarship programs,” said Linda Leto Head, Senior Associate Vice Chancellor, LSC External and Employer Relations. “The impact of these scholarships supporting workforce programs will be felt for years to come.”
The Rodeo has committed more than half a billion dollars since 1932 to youth and education. Last year, the Rodeo funded six LSC-Tomball Veterinary Technology students and 12 scholarships to students studying Electrical Technology, Industrial Diesel, Mechatronics, Process Technology and Welding.
“Receiving a Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo scholarship really helped me save money that would have been used toward my tuition and resources for school,” said Melany Aguirre, LSC-Tomball student and scholarship recipient. “When I finish my studies to become a licensed veterinary technician, I would like to continue my education and earn a bachelor’s degree.”
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo promotes agriculture by hosting an annual, family-friendly experience that educates and entertains the public, supports Texas youth, showcases Western heritage and provides year-round educational support within the community.
